About the event
Come celebrate the Jubilee Year of Hope with us! The Church encourages us to be seeds of hope during the Jubilee, and our parishes plan to do that by helping to feed the hungry. Engaging in the corporal works of mercy is also one of the ways to seek the Jubilee indulgence!
There are many families experiencing emergency food situations in Springfield. The St. Vincent de Paul society there distributes boxes of unperishable food items, suitable for a family of four. Our goal is to assemble 100 boxes. Our parishes in Champaign County did the same on September 13!
There are several ways to participate. The majority of the work will take place Saturday, October 25, from 10:00-12:00 in Makley Hall at St. Pat's. That day, we'll assemble and fill boxes, and load them onto a trailer for transport to the Springfield SVDP. We're hoping for this event to be full of people and fun, so snacks to share would be appreciated!
If you cannot help that day, but still want to be a part, we'd also like to decorate the boxes with encouraging messages, scripture verses, small pictures... anything to brighten the day of the recipients. Boxes could be decorated beforehand, and returned to the church before the event. Donations to cover the cost of the food will also be accepted. Envelopes for this purpose will be in the back of both churches.
Use the RSVP button to let us know you are coming, and how you'd like to help. A special note to families--this is a great event for all ages!
